Before Competition Season, we have one more presentation given by our safety captain. This presentation helps provide a reference and reminder about basic safety protocols that our students MUST know. It includes things such as what to do if a person is in cardiac arrest, what to do when there's a fire, what to do when a battery leaks and more. Once again, the presentation goes in depth on basic things, although it is necessary to ensure that our students know exactly what to do in that scenario. After this, we gave a quiz to all our students and 95% of our students received a 100. To participate in competitions season, it was mandatory that they got at least a 90%. Another thing we do during competition season is finding the nearest medical professionals and emergency exits. This is to help our students know where they are and what to do if they need medical help or need to evacuate immediately. In the pits, we assign roles to each of our students in the event of an emergency. The roles we assign are to be back up safety captain, contact FIRST personal, contact medical help if need be and to evacuate the pits. All of these items try to make sure that we STAY SAFE. During competitions, we also like to go around to other pits to learn about their safety procedures using our safety scouting sheet and share with them our procedures. We also like starting a safety alliance wherever we go to inspire friendships and safe thinking! In order to prep for our upcoming freshman onto M.O.R.T., we ask the kids to shadow us in the sub team they’re interested. We have done this for 2 years now and for Safety, it has been extremely successful. We are able to help our upcoming safety sub team members learn about the culture of safety, protocols we have and more.
